Product Description

ContourHD, High Def Action Sports Camera

High Definition Is Where It's At, VholdR Contour Helmet Cam Brings It

Find out which ContourHD is for you.

ContourHD Firmware Upgrade (Version 1.34) now available. This upgrade enables you to change the video and audio settings on your ContourHD camera. With this firmware, you will be able to configure the video (bitrate), lighting (contrast, exposure, sharpness, and metering), and microphone sensitivity. You can use the latest version of the Easy Edit Software to configure these camera settings. This upgrade also improves compatibility with select 8GB MicroSD cards, including MaxFlash brand cards.

Point of view helmet cams used to be more about convenience than video quality. You could easily mount the camera anywhere but the main drawback was low resolution videos that barely had enough resolution for YouTube. The high rez cameras that were available cost about $2500 dollars!

vholdr contour hd camera

The VholdR ContourHD changes all that. Now you get the ultra convenience of a small, light, easy to mount camera AND amazing high resolution video.

Amazing, Super Sharp Video Quality

vholdr contour hd camera

The previous VholdR had a maximum resolution of 640x480, the NEW VholdR ContourHD puts out a jaw dropping 1280 x 720 at 30 FPS for ultra sharp, high detail images! You ALSO get DVD quality high action mode that shoots at 848x480 at 60 FPS for super smooth fast action recording.

Ultra Wide Angle Lens To Capture ALL the Action

vholdr contour hd camera

One big feature of the VholdR ContourHD camera is the built in ultra wide angle lens. Action sports require a wide angle lens to capture more of scene so viewers get that immersive sense of being "right in the action". This is especially important when recording high speed action.

Most regular digital cameras only give you a 60 to 75 degree angle of view on the widest angle. The VholdR ContourHD has improved on their previous camera with new, whopping 135º wide angle lens! This is wide enought to put everything in the frame but not so wide that it distorts the landscape.

Great Value For A Specialized Camera With So Many Features The VholdR ContourHD point of view camera is small, lightweight, waterproof, wireless and easily mounts to sports gear or any surface. It is one of the best price vs features deal for a helmet camera!

Ultimate In Usability - Custom Made For Action Sports

When you're in the middle of the action the last thing you want is a big, bulky camera dragging you down. The Vholdr contour is one of the lightest, most rugged, easiest mounting POV (point of view) camera available.

Weighing a measly 4 ounces, you won't even remember you're wearing the Vholdr.

Housed in a tough, black aluminum enclosure, the Vholdr is not some fragile consumer cam that shatters into tiny plastic pieces if you drop it. The Vholdr ContourHD is also water resistant so shooting in bad weather is not a problem. Try doing that with a regular video camera.

Auto Laser Leveling

The Vholdr ContourHD uses dual lasers on the front lens housing to pinpoint subject location and camera shooting level. VholdR takes care of all the camera parameters so you don't have to; leaving you to focus on your sports not fiddling with camera controls.

Patented Quick and Easy Mounting System

Fast and easy camera hook up is not an option for action sports cameras. You need to mount the camera quickly, easily and just go, not mess around with complicated mounting systems.

With the Vholdr's patented TRail mount system, rails on the side allow you to quickly slide and lock the camera into place. It's that easy! Slide, wait for the "click" that tells you the Vholdr is locked and you're ready to go!

With numerous mounting options for flat surfaces, goggles, helmets and handlebars you never have to worry about finding a mount to fit your needs. VholdR’s mounting options are designed to give you the flexibility to capture video in ways even we haven’t predicted.

High Frame Rate For High Action Recording

Exclusive to the VholdR ContourHD is the high action 60 frames per second recording mode designed for capturing high speed action. Videos at 60 fps look much more smoother and less "jittery" when recording high speed action.

One Button Recording & Focusing

vholdr contour hd camera

VholdR ContourHD is one of the easiest to use helmet cams around. No knobs, dials or messing with menus like a regular video camera when you are using the VholdR!

One giant record button on top makes it easy to stop and start recording even with heavy ski gloves on.

Record Hours of Action Video

vholdr contour hd camera

With support for up to 16GB MicroSD (SDHC compatible) cards you can shoot hours and hours of video on a single memory card. Record time is 30min/GB of HD video and 60 min/GB of SD video. You can get 2 hours of recording off a single removable lithium polymer battery.

  1. Not SD, but not HD (3.5) Review by DHbiker
    Rating

Let's start by the obvious : For this price tag, the quality is amazing. It looks a lot better than your standard camcorder and you should get it as it is the best bang for your bucks. Now, the ugly. I used it with the goggle mount while riding downhill / freeride bike and the image is blurry when you look at it frame by frame and the still images you extract for it aren't great (I know, it's not a digital camera). Optical or software image stabilization should be implemented in future version. The goggle mount is tough and never felled, but move with every bumps of the terrain (my goggle strap were tightened a lot to reduce this) and adds to the blurriness of the image. Colors are good, but nothing impressive : I shooted in the woods, at Fall, with a lot of natural lights, and it doesn't come out with that much colors. With that said, I repeat : this product is pretty good, but don't be fooled : it's a cheap near HD helmetcam (720i according to my editing software). I'm looking forward for the ContourHD 1080P and don't regret my purchase. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on this. (Posted on 10/22/09)

  2. good to go Review by nic

Great camera, awesome picture, it takes a little when going in and out of the sun to adjust for the light conditions. As for the wind noise, just use a cap froma bic pen to put over the mike. I notice the record button gets a little sticky with use in dusty conditions. Overall great design and very versatile, long battery life, easy to charge with mini usb, using your car phone charger or laptop. I give it 4+ because there's always room for improvement! 3. Great Picture Quality Review by CR Scoob
    Rating

The video quality is great! So smooth, clear and crisp! It's easy to operate and is so light you don't even know it's there. The sound is still a problem when it's windy or when you get on the open road but on tight trails or when not moving, the sound is great. I attached a piece of foam with 2-sided tape (with small hole so not to cover the mic hole with tape) and it drastically reduced the wind noise. It also made the wind noise more of a low muffle instead of the loud sharp "crackling", which I find offensive to the ears.

If I was to use the stick-on mount, I would attach the tether to the helmet, and not the stick-on mount so you don't end up like the guy in the first review. I used the goggle mount and found it to work pretty good. They should have shaped both mounts to fit the curvature of helmets tho. I stuck some rubber on the ends (helmet side) of the goggle mount to make it contoured to sits firmly on the helmet without chance of movement or "rocking". This worked very well.

I have used the camera 4 times now and I'm very happy with it. One ride we were caught in a BIG rainstorm and the ContourHD worked well. No ill effects from all the water and when the picture was obscured by a raindrop, it cleared within 5-10 seconds.

I use a Transcend 16GB micro SDHC class 6 memory card. The only thing to remember is to power the ContourHD ON, prior to connecting it to your PC. Otherwise, it won't recognize the camera on the PC.

I completely endorse this helmet camera and for the money, you cant beat the quality. PLUS: NO WIRES!!! I think if VholdR spends a little time on their mounting systems, and offered a optional clear lens protector that could be easily replaced when scratched, or damaged, I would be completely satisfied with this product. If not for the mounting issues, I would give the ContourHD a 5 out of 5! (Posted on 6/26/09)
